2019 Board of Directors

Our dedicated Board of Directors is comprised of the home building industry’s leaders in their respective fields. We strive to plan and deliver timely and relevant programming to our industry peers to advance knowledge and provide a productive environment for mentoring and networking. President – Katja Martinez- kmartinez@jzmkpartners.com
Katja joined JZMK Partners in 2000 after graduating from the University of Applied Science, Stuttgart, Germany with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture. Since becoming an associate/senior designer to JZMK Partners, she now holds the position of principal. With nearly 20 years of experience, Katja is involved in a wide variety of residential projects throughout California, Texas, China and the Middle East. Her innovative designs range from custom residences, recreational facilities and resort clubhouses to mixed-use facilities and high-rise residential buildings.


First Vice President – Ike Balmaseda – ikeb@idearc-ap.com
Ike Balmaseda is a partner of IDEArc Architecture and Planning. With over 30 years of architecture and urban design experience, Ike has spent more than 15 years applying his skills to rapidly growing countries, such as the Philippines, China and Mexico. Specializing in master planned residential communities, destination resorts, entertainment/retail venues, commercial/industrial centers and multi-purpose public facilities, Ike’s abilities encompass all aspects of the land design process, from the formulation of master plan concepts to detailed site development plans and “value-added” land studies.


Second Vice President – Andy Bowden – ABowden@landconcern.com
Andy Bowden is a principal at Land Concern – Landscape Architecture. Licensed in California and Colorado, Andy specializes in: master planned residential communities, assisted living, recreation facilities and residential development. He has been a member of the Council on SAGE and on its Board of Directors with the role of president in 2009-10, prior to becoming VP of Councils for the BIASC. Andy is active in the American Society of Landscape Architects and has been a two-time president of its Southern California Chapter, as well as serving two terms as Chapter Trustee. He was appointed by Governors Schwarzenegger and Brown to the Landscape Architects Technical Committee, and has served three times as the chair.

Joe Hammond is a registered civil engineer with Rick Engineering Company, and a graduate of San Diego State University. His accomplished career began at Rick Engineering Company in 1988, where he has successfully managed numerous public and private land development projects throughout Southern California. Joe has been an active member of the Council on SAGE (formerly 55+ Housing Council) since 2010, and has been a Council on SAGE board member since 2012.

Kristie Vikse is the development services manager at Rancho Mission Viejo, and has been in the real estate industry for over 30 years. Her experience and responsibilities include: development forward planning, Department of Real Estate budget preparation and document/disclosure processes and homeowner association management, as well as residential purchaser escrow procedures.

Cynthia Cook is Business Development Director of R.D. Olson Construction, a general contracting firm specializing in ground up, renovations and adaptive-reuse projects in the fields of: hospitality, multifamily, senior living, timeshare, community centers, clubhouses and education. Cynthia has 30+ dedicated years of business development experience in the real estate industry, including: home builders, multifamily, senior, resort and timeshare. She is passionate about supporting industries that have supported her, which include roles as: former IPC Co-Chair of SCAA (now CAA), ULI Programs Committee member, Council on SAGE Programs Committee member and BIASC member.

Annie Gerard is vice president, advisory, for Meyers Research, LLC. A 35-year market research veteran, who has written and spoken extensively on emerging trends, Annie has specialized in the 55+ sector since the mid 1980s. She is nationally recognized for her expertise in age-qualified (“senior”) apartments, was among the nation’s first CAASH designees, and was a founding member of the BIASC Seniors Housing Council (now Council on SAGE).

Rian Graber is a Senior Consultant, Advisory for Meyers Research, LLC. with a legal background, as well as residential, mixed use and retail experience. She has been involved in the real estate industry since 2006. Rian’s experience includes due diligence, entitlement, and product programming for community developers and home builders. She has analyzed plans for age-targeted and age-qualified communities and individual project resale data to identify trends in pricing and sales volume, recommended diversified product programs and amenities for planned communities, and conducted market analysis for new homes.

Valerie Hardman is the vice president of sales and client relations for Outdoor Dimensions, a full service signage company that has served the real-estate and building industry for 48 years. Valerie also serves as vice president of councils for the BIASC’s Governing Board, as well as the Board of Directors of the Orange County BIA. She is past president and continues to serve on the boards of the Council on SAGE and the Greater Sales and Marketing Council of Southern California. Valerie is a proud recipient of the B.J. Stewart Women’s Achievement Award, the A.Gary Anderson Memorial Associate of Excellence Award and the Gwen Roseberry Award for her service to the BIA of Orange County. She also received the President’s Award from the Senior Housing Council, and was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award from the Sales and Marketing Council and the 55+ Housing Council.

Nick Lehnert is executive director of design strategies for KTGY Architecture and Planning with more than 40 years experience in the building industry. Nick provides an enhanced understanding of disciplined design that matches client and project objectives, as well as in- depth market and consumer knowledge. He has served BIA/SC throughout his career. As a seven-year 55+ board member and chair of programs, Nick’s goal is to energize and initiate new forms of key insight into the evolution of homes and place lifestyle design via the Council on SAGE programs.

Leveraging the depth of her 25+ years of experience among strategic marketing groups, Gina adds valuable perspective through complementing internal teams at such respected companies as: Newland Communities, City View, KTGY Group, CalAtlantic Homes, Meritage Homes and, most recently, Thomas James Homes for which she serves as director of marketing. She is a past president of the Council on SAGE, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute, NAHB and BIASC. Gina is a proven performer with a passion for helping others with the vision to conceptualize and execute a wide range of sales and marketing strategies designed to establish market presence, build community, and increase profitability.

For nearly 30 years, Lisa has honed her skills in the management and production of awards and events for every size group across the nation. Passionate about providing inspiration to others through a willingness to share knowledge and mentoring others in the home building Industry, Lisa’s specialties include: marketing, promotion, design and sales.

Dave Pintar is the Director of Project Development for CW Driver, a general contractor specializing in planning and construction. Dave is responsible for developing new business, client and industry relations, and business planning. He has been in the real estate and construction industry for more than 34 years, and began his career as a project engineer, working in operations, as well as geotechnical and material engineering, business development, and later in construction lending and risk management. Dave received his bachelor of science degree in Construction Management from California State University, Long Beach.

Cristina Walters is principal of C&M Communique, a strategic and full-service marketing firm specializing in the new home industry for 26 years. A UCLA alumna, Cristina oversees the marketing initiatives for the Council on SAGE, and has proudly teamed with such esteemed clients as Toll Brothers, Pulte Homes, Del Webb, Centex, Lennar and many other builders and associates.

Julia Moore has over 30 years of experience in the property management field, primarily in the affordable housing arena. She works part-time as a Regional Manager at WSH Management, and is a licensed independent Real Estate Broker. Julia also serves as past president of the Council on SAGE of the BIA, AHMA-PSW and the Fair Housing Foundation.
